"New Name - Same Peninsula Icon"

General Store exterior

Merricks General Store is a peninsula icon and community hub.

The historic and popular produce store/social hub is also a bistro and the cellar door for Elgee Park, Baillieu Vineyard and Quealy wines, three estates committed to realising the greatness of the Mornington Peninsula.

Dating back to the rural 1920's, "the store" provided both supplies and society to the local district. As the centre is now showcasing three premium estates wine, we decided to refresh the name to Merricks General Wine Store.

Merricks General Wine Store is the cellar door for three vignerons with deep ties to the Mornington Peninsula. Established in 1972 by Baillieu (Bails) and Sarah Myer, Elgee Park is the oldest vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula and one of the first vineyards to grow Viognier. Baillieu Vineyard is part of a diverse and meticulously maintained farm owned by Samantha and Charlie Baillieu, producing some of the regions finest examples of Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Quealy Wines made by Kathleen Quealy also the winemaker behind Baillieu Vineyard and recently quoted as being "one of Australia’s most talented winemakers", makes futuristic style wines.

In 2004 the store was refurbished and extended to create a modern amenity whilst maintaining its rustic charm. Guests are now able to dine or taste wine by the open fires, on the sea view deck or under the vines. In 2008 the building changed ownership, became the cellar door for three family estates and renowned chef, Janine Richmond, began creating modern country style cuisine.

The Store’s prime location on the Frankston-Flinders Road, nestled about half way between Balnarring and Shoreham (Melways reference 192 E10), has been a destination for over two generations of locals and visitors to the Peninsula.

The Cellar Door is open daily and our staff will take you through a tutored tasting of the wines from the three vineyards to help you make a selection for purchase or to have with your meal.

The Bistro is open every day from 9am - 5pm serving breakfast (8.00am – 5pm on weekends), lunch and snacks. Dinner is available on Saturday evening’s.
