LOOKING FOR PMARA (home)
Located in Alice Springs these two art centres offer a rare insight into the personal histories & the contemporary experiences of Aboriginal people who have lived on Town Camps for a number of generations. Through soft sculpture & painting these artists tell their story their way:
‘These sculptures are looking for pmara. They don’t know the city. They come from the desert, from the centre of Australia. These paintings tell the stories from this place. Beautiful dry vast desert. But maybe you can look after the sculptures & the paintings in your pmara. Look after them really well because those sculptures, they are like family for us, they are not just sewing on old bush dyed blankets, but real family because we make them with our hands & with our hearts. These paintings are full of all our stories. Look after them in your city pmara & see how much joy they will bring you, you will feel us, the desert artists with you every day when you see these works in your pmara.’
