A very limited edition 2022 Elgee Park Viognier.
Smelling of honeysuckle, white blossom & apricots with ripe stone fruits & even more floral notes on the palate, the Viognier has a long and complex finish.
Because the crop was so tiny the handpicked fruit was pressed straight to a single barrel for natural fermentation, with an old barrel used to complement the power and texture of the wine. Fermented to dryness and stirred on lees for two months, then racked and prepared for bottling in winter to retain the fruit freshness whilst capturing the complexity of flavour and texture from the time on lees.

The palate of red plum, blackcurrants & white pepper combine to define this elegant cool climate shiraz. Maturation in French oak for 12 months gives hints of clove, vanilla & soft tannins.
Rain events did create moderate disease pressure during the growing season but were often followed by prolonged periods of mild & dry weather so there was little disease occurrence. Temperatures were generally moderate with higher-than-average low temperatures but no hot weather & certainly no heat waves. We meandered through harvest at a gentle pace.
Destemmed to the fermenter where after a few days macerating, the fermentation commenced. Once dry the wine spent a further two weeks on skins to maximise the fine tannin extraction. It was pressed to French oak barrels, 25% of which were new, where it completed malolactic fermentation. Racked once in the late winter and returned to barrel for maturation, before preparation for bottling in February 2022.
