AGL’s proposed gas import terminal at Crib Point poses a grave threat to the tranquillity & natural beauty of the internationally protected Westernport Bay. The community campaign to protect Westernport is growing louder by the day. Two high profile federal candidates – Julia Banks and Greg Hunt – have joined the twelve thousand Victorians who have publicly called on AGL & the Victorian government to drop the proposal. Under pressure from the community, AGL have been forced to admit that the gas terminal will not lower gas prices for Victorian households & businesses. It will actually increase greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% when compared with using Victoria’s own gas supplies from Bass Strait, because of the extra energy used in compressing & transporting gas around the world. This campaign still has a long way to run. AGL is a company used to getting its way. It will take a sophisticated strategy & powerful community opposition to win.

Environment Victoria is the state’s peak environment group & is working with local campaigners including the Save Westernport alliance to stop AGL’s gas import terminal. Come along for exclusive briefing on the campaign from Environment Victoria CEO Jono La Nauze & senior campaign staff. You will hear the inside story on the campaign & how you can support it.
