Accrediting her orienteering and navigational skills to school camps in the Australian wilderness, after her studies, Missy went to work for a horse safari outfit in Botswana, then ventured to South Africa, meeting her now beloved husband, George.
Fast forward a few years and Missy is entrenched in a busy, full life on their farm in Cape Town with four children and their animals: horses, dogs, cats, chickens and even a warthog at one stage!
Inspired to do the Mongol Derby after good friend Patrick Heffron (Irish) completed and came 2nd in 2022, Missy was looking for a bit of extra fun and adventure and she certainly got what she hoped for, whilst also having the time of her life, building special friendships and making incredible memories. Patrick’s Daughter Annabelle and Australian friend Josh Dales also took on the challenge.
Astoundingly Missy finished the ten day course in only eight days, coming home victorious.
With Missy back in Australia to spend time with family, we are thrilled she has time to fit in an afternoon with us. We invite you to join in, for a relaxed lunch and discussion with Missy and Josh about their exhilarating experience conquering the 2024 Mongol Derby.
*Missy and Anabelle have been raising awareness and funds for a children’s care centre in South Africa called Masizame, which they are very involved with. They are hoping to raise enough money to enable this incredible facility to be self-sustaining and not totally reliant on the limited funds received from the Government and annual fundraising done each year.
Currently there are 41 children being supported and cared for at Masizame and hoping to grow to 50 by the end of 2024. These children have been removed by court order from their families and placed in a loving and caring environment that needs support.
