2021 Scorpo Estate ‘Old Cherry Orchard’ Pinot Noir

This premium, single vineyard Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir demonstrates precise, intricate winemaking. This wine from the Scorpo family’s Old Cherry Orchard block is planted at high density, creating a concentration of flavour and texture rarely seen in vineyards planted at average spacing. Only produced in very good vintages, this is ready to drink now or can be cellared for many years to come. Rated 97pts, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion.

VINTAGE

Rain events did create moderate disease pressure during the growing season but were often followed by prolonged periods of mild & dry weather so there was little disease occurrence. Temperatures were generally higher than moderate with higher-than-average low temperatures but no hot weather & certainly no heat waves. We meandered through harvest at a gentle pace.

WINEMAKING

Hand picked. 15% whole bunch & cold soaked for 4 days. Left on skins for 21 days. Fermented in concrete with wild yeast.  25% new French oak, no filtration. Bottled Feb 4, 2022.
