THE WINES

Quealy Turbal Malvasia 2022

Malvasia Istriana is seen as a high quality versatile grape variety in Friuli lending weight and aromatics to blends & in its own right. Six months in maceration & 18 months in barrel there were only 60 dozen made. The palate is full, fleshy & mouthcoatingly savoury, with a fresh, sweet citrus cut & a lovely rich lick of nuttiness on the lengthy finish.

Avani Amrit Moscato Gewürztraminer 2023 (skin contact)

A mix of floral and musky notes on the nose and pomegranate juice on the palate 25% of the moscato is fermented on skins for two weeks, with the rest fermented in old French oak barrels for eleven months.

Brothers McLean Mencía 2023

Not surprisingly this release from Brothers Mclean really grabbed our attention. Made by very good winemakers, Alex & Peter McLean this wine is alluring & layered. Produced with Mencía (“Men-thee-ah”) from the Pyrenees. A grape originally from Western Spain and Portugal is a delicious middleweight red that is full of red and black fruit flavours, minerality and fine tannins.

Handpicked ‘Trial Batch’ Nero d’Avola 2020

A brilliant vibrant purple hued wine with aromas of musk, rose, dark plum, pomegranate, baked quince and dried herbs. The mid-weight palate has the mouth-watering natural acidity we would expect of this variety and plenty of tannin. The flavours encompass cherries, sour plums, herbal notes and dried tomato.

Handpicked ‘Trial Batch’ Vermentino 2023

A harmonious fusion of small berried blue and black fruits greets the senses. Blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry, black plum entwined with dark chocolate cherry ripe. This wine is all about juicy fruits and textural mouth filling tannins.

Elan Gamay 2022

Dusty, musky cherry & blueberry on the nose. The palate is light to medium bodied, dry with a touch of sour cherry, along with chocolatey cherry ripe & salty plum. Bright acid & just enough tannin make this a great little wine.
